5 Small Ways To Recharge When You Feel Drained.
Between working all day, eating on the run, and having little time for fun and relaxation, it’s normal to feel exhausted at least some of the time. But always feeling worn-out isn’t healthy & chances are it will leave you feeling less happy.
If that’s you, then it might be time to take some steps and recharge your battery. Here are some simple ways that can help you energize your mind and body on daily basis:
1- Sunshine:
Did you know the right balance can have lots of mood-lifting benefits?
Sunlight and darkness trigger the release of hormones in your brain. Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called Serotonin.
Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused. At night, darker lighting triggers the brain to make another hormone called Melatonin. This hormone is responsible for helping you sleep.
Getting some sunshine, especially in the early hours of the day,as the sun rises and towards the end of the day before the sunsets, helps you set your Circadian rhythm for a much better sleep and rest.
2- Sleep:
Sleep is the ultimate body recharger. Experts recommend 7-9 hours of sleep per night for healthy adults ages 26 to 64. Set up a healthy sleep schedule by going to sleep and getting up at the same time every day.
Why waking up at the same time every morning can improve sleep quality?
Because a consistent wake-up time keeps your melatonin pumping on schedule, it helps you steer clear of the sleep-schedule delay that happens when you stay up late, only to sleep in later the following morning and then struggle to fall asleep that night and when you’re waking up at the same time every morning, you’ll have a better chance of dozing off easily each night.
3- Breathe:
Inhale. Exhale. It’s something you do tens of thousands of times each day, probably without thinking much about it.
Simple breathing exercises incorporated throughout your day can actually disengage a potentially health-harming chronic stress response and help insulate you from the damage that it can inflict on your body.
Focused, controlled breathing patterns can down-regulate your autonomic nervous system, meaning it helps "calm" the sympathetic nervous system (the part responsible for your fight or flight response) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the part responsible for your rest and digest state).
4- Dance:
There’s something about grooving to the sound of music that seems to take all of our cares away…
Just turn on some music and dance around your living room. It’s about getting your heart pumping and your mood-boosting endorphins going. You’ll feel the energy charging your battery instantly!
5- Get Creative:
Art is an excellent way to help soothe an exhausted mind. Take out some art supplies and draw or paint. Many bookstores also carry coloring books with complex patterns designed specifically as a stress reducer. Using pencils or crayons to fill in repeating designs can be just as soothing and relaxing for adults as it is for kids.
What can you do for yourself today?
Take a few deep breaths?
Dance to your favorite tunes?
Get some sunshine?
