5 Micro Habits That Will Transform Your Health

We always think that only by making giant changes and grand gestures can we transform our health and therefore our lives. Although this can be a valid assumption for certain moments in life, it’s not always true.

Here are 5 tiny habits that can truly make a huge difference in your overall well-being:

1- Drink 8-16 oz of water as soon as you wake up:
As you sleep through the night, your body loses lots of water through breathing, hence why we often wake up slightly dehydrated. Since about 70% of your body is water, dehydration can have a deep impact on your overall health and your bodily functions and your mental clarity. So Hydrate generously as soon as you wake up, everyday! 

2- Get 10 min of morning and evening sun everyday (safely):
To set your Circadian rhythm for a much better sleep and to be in more harmony with nature, aim to view the sunlight for at least 10 min, 30-60 minutes after you wake up and repeat the same process in the afternoon before sunset. You don’t need to look directly at the sun, just go outside with sunglasses and allow the natural sunlight into your eyes to activate your Circadian clock.

3- Practice Nasal (breathing through the nose) Breathing:When you breathe through your nose, you continuously stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system also known as the “rest and digest” state, a crucial state of being for recovery.

If you’re in the habit of breathing through your mouth more often than not, you’re unknowingly activating your sympathetic nervous system, also known as the “fight or flight” state which is not supportive of your body’s healing and recovery.

4- Touch the earth everyday:
Regular contact with the earth, also known as grounding, is a very old health practice and a simple one. Connecting your bare feet to the surface of the earth, allows your body to exchange electrons with the earth's surface, which in turn can result in a rapid and positive physiological change. You can practice grounding by walking barefoot on the grass or on the beach.

If none of the options are available to you, you can always buy grounding mats as an alternative solution.

5- Turn your smartphone to “grayscale” mode for half of the day:
This simply removes all the colors from your phone, making everything look Grey and makes everything less attractive and appealing to your eyes, when you scroll through your phone.
If you’re having a hard time detaching from your screen and spending too much time on your phone, this is a great trick!
